Sea Legacy, the global network of communicators and photographers dedicated to raising awareness about protecting and caring for the ocean and the environment, has selected Ocean Beer to join nine other organisations in founding ‘The Good Ocean’, an initiative that aims to join forces in the fight to protect the planet and end the massive destruction of the seas.
The ten companies that comprise the founding members of The Good Ocean share, in addition to their love for the ocean, their commitment to bring about a real change in society’s consumer habits and promote the purchase of sustainable products. For its part, Ocean Beer has been selected for its commitment to the preservation of the ocean and all the relevant actions associated with it, such as beach clean-ups and the protection of marine ecosystems.
“Ocean Beer is part of the Good Ocean community which is composed of passionate and proactive business owners unified by an ability and commitment to disrupt the retail industry,” said Cristina Mittermeier, Co-founder and President of Sea Legacy. “Our founding members are leaders in their space, responding to the growing consumer demand for accountability in how products are produced, distributed and packaged. I am honoured they have chosen to align with SeaLegacy, and with each other, as we take steps towards systemic change in our consumer culture.”
The founding of this initiative is particularly relevant as it marks the first collaboration Sea Legacy has undertaken since its inception in 2014 by Cristina Mittermeier, a pioneer in the world of activist photography and Ambassador for the UN SGD 14, and Paul Nicklen, renowned polar photographer, both National Geographic photographers.
“We greatly value the exemplary work Sea Legacy does, raising awareness through photography and making a positive impact by generating the resources and pathways needed for a better future for our ocean. It makes us so proud to have been chosen to be part of The Good Ocean to strengthen our relationship and find more ways we can support them” explained Carolina Manhusen Schwab, President and Co-founder of the Ocean Born Foundation, the organisation that markets Ocean Beer.
Manhusen Schwab was recently awarded the prize “Female Entrepreneur and Leader in Ibero-America 2021”, granted at CEAPI’s IV Ibero-American Congress. “Together we will lead a real and necessary change in the care of our marine ecosystems”, she said.
The other organisations that make up the founding members of ‘The Good Ocean’ that Ocean Beer is thrilled to be associated with are: Good Juju Ink, PAKA APPAREL, KOS, Goldilocks Goods, Laykhaus, Blue Marble Investments, Lowepro, Daria Hope and Sheringham Distillery.
About Ocean Beer and the Ocean Born Foundation
Ocean Beer belongs to the Ocean Born Foundation, an organisation whose main purpose is to accelerate ocean clean-up and conservation. Ocean Beer was born thanks to three surfer friends who decided to unite their two passions, the ocean and beer, by brewing a beer that was used to reward those who attended their beach clean-ups. In 2020 a new ambitious phase was launched with Ocean Beer. The brand has three different categories: Ocean Lager, Surfer IPA and Ocean Beer 0.0 alcohol. To guarantee the project’s commitment, the Ocean Born Foundation was established in December 2020. The foundation is committed to donating 100% of its profits to restore and protect ocean health.
